Karla Kelly
PhD Student
Karla's research focusses on the evolution of referential signaling in birds. For her MS, she studied yellow warblers, which give seet calls to brood parasitic cowbirds. Karla explored whether seet calls alter patterns of nest vigilance in the future, specifically around dawn when cowbirds lay their eggs in warbler nests.

Keke Ray, MS
Keke studied combinatorial communication and investigated the ways in which male red-winged blackbirds combine notes to communicate meaning about threats to reproductive success. Keke graduated Spring 2024 and now works at The Institute for Bird Populations as an Acoustic Monitoring Specialist.
Dr. Joanna Sblendorio
My research explores acoustic niche partitioning within and among bird communities. I am interested in how temperate warbler communities partition acoustic space, and whether partitioning patterns vary depending on biotic and abiotic constraints, including community composition and anthropogenic noise. I completed my degree Summer 2023 and now am a Visiting Assistant Professor at Albion College.
