We aim to understand the natural world by listening.

We study the sounds of individuals, species, communities and soundscapes across spatial and temporal scales to study behavioral and ecological questions. We're motivated by the goal to understand how natural systems change in anthropogenic landscapes and how to restore and conserve natural places. We also aim to better  understand the sounds of animals, investigating how they function, what they mean and how they evolve.

Our work is heavily inspired by a love of birds and nature, and our research also explores how to connect head, heart and hands through art-science practice and collaboration. We aim to merge the facts of bird declines and extinction (head) and artistic expression and felt experience (heart) to inspire conservation action (hands).
